Maddie Wallin of NOVA of Virginia Aquatics Announces Verbal Commitment to Houston

NEW COMMIT: Chesterfield, Va. native Maddie Wallin has verbally committed to the University of Houston and will join the Cougars in the fall of 2020.

Wallin does her club swimming with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and recently placed 21st in the 1000 free at NCSAs after earning the runner-up spot in the mile at Virginia Seniors. Last summer, she earned a trio of best times at NCSAs and grabbed bronze in the 1500m free at Virginia LCM Seniors.

Also competing for Monacan High School, Wallin is a four-time Virginia 4A State Championship finalist. She placed second in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free as a junior after placing third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 500 free during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Houston!  Thank you to my parents, friends, and coaches who have helped me get to where I am today!  I can’t wait to be a Cougar!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:53.23
  • 500 free – 4:57.93
  • 1000 free – 10:06.11
  • 1650 free – 16:53.70
  • 200 back – 2:04.02
  • 200 IM – 2:07.82
  • 400 IM – 4:26.58

Wallin will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Cougars as a member of the class of 2024 along with Grace ButcherShe would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free and placed top-10 in the mile at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Houston earned their third-straight team title.
