This week’s Performance Of The Week, sponsored by LumaLanes, goes to Michael Andrew for his barrier-breaking swim this weekend in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2018 Speedo Sectionals in Columbia.

Swimming a busy schedule on the third night of the meet, Andrew started things off with a huge 18.91 win the 50 free. That was his first time under 19 seconds and the third fastest time ever by a 17-18 year old. He doubled up that win with a victory in the 100 back (46.50) immediately after the 50 and later on in the session won the 50 fly (20.60).

Check out Andrew crash through the 19-second barrier below:

This swim also continues the hot streak that Andrew has been on. Just earlier this month the 18-year old took down Olympic gold medalist and sprint veteran Nathan Adrian at the Atlanta stop of the TYR Pro Swim Series in the long course 50, something Andrew called a huge “confidence boost” as we move toward a big summer of qualifiers for the United States.

Congratulations Michael Andrew on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!

Special Thanks to LumaLanes for sponsoring Swimming World’s Performance of the Week.
