Louisville Cardinals Launch 2022 Recruiting With Verbal Pledge from Local Standout Charlie Crush

NEW COMMIT: The University of Louisville has kicked off their Class of 2026 recruiting with a verbal commitment from local standout Charlie Crush of Louisville, Ky.

He is the Cardinals’ first public verbal commitment for the fall of 2022.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to study and swim at the University of Louisville! I want to thank my family and coaches for helping me get where I am today. I’m so excited to be a part of this family! ?⚫️GO CARDS!⚫️?”

A versatile swimmer who owns the Junior National cut in the 100 back, Crush does his club swimming with Lakeside Swim Team. He was the 100 back runner-up at the Speedo Music City Invitational in December and won the 50 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 fly at the Southern Premier Invitational in March 2019.

In summer 2019, he earned four personal bests at Greensboro Sectionals where his highest finish was an 18th-place showing in the 200m back. Crush then went on to record six top-10 finishes at the Kentucky 13&O LCM State Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 48.78
  • 200 back – 1:52.62
  • 50 free – 21.19
  • 100 free – 48.43
  • 100 fly – 52.17
  • 200 fly – 1:55.07
  • 200 IM – 1:56.43

Currently a junior at Saint Xavier High School, Crush finished third in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free at the 2020 Kentucky State Championships. His performances helped his team clinch their 32nd-consecutive state championship title.

Under head coach Arthur AlbieroUofL placed third overall at the ACC Championships last season. Louisville finished a program-high fifth place at NCAAs in 2019, surpassing their previous top finish of ninth in both 2012 and 2018. The Cardinals qualified 10 swimmers for the 2020 NCAA Championships before the meet was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Cardinals are bringing in a large and talented class at the start of the 2021-22 season that includes Gustavo SaldoMurilo Sartori, Tommy BriedRyan HoganEli Shoyat, Lance GodardWylie KruseJohn BosslerOwen Taylor and Luke Shourds.
