Lauren McCain, Alexis Torykian Will Head to East Coast With Verbals to Vermont

NEW COMMITS: The University of Vermont has received two verbal commitments from Lauren McCain of Seattle, Wash. and Alexis Torykian of Encinitas, Calif. for the fall of 2021.

Both talented swimmers will join Anna Shoudt in Burlington as members of the Catamounts’ Class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Vermont. Big thank you to all of the people who have supported me over the years. I cannot wait to be a Cat!!!”

McCain swims year-round with Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club and earned three best times at Pacific Northwest Seniors in December. Last summer, she placed 19th in the 800m free and 24th in the 400m free at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:57.54
  • 500 free – 5:16.53
  • 1000 free – 10:59.91
  • 100 back – 1:00.39
  • 200 back – 2:10.40

Also competing for Roosevelt High School, McCain has competed at the Washington 3A State Championships the last two years. She finished 16th in the 200 free as a junior while taking 14th in the 500 free during her sophomore season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Vermont. Huge thanks to my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me through this process. Go Cats!!! ??”

Torykian does her club swimming with Rancho San Dieguito and earned three best times at Carlsbad Sectionals in March after grabbing bronze in the 100 back at San Diego Imperial Age Groups in December. She also placed eighth in both the 100m and 200m back at San Diego Imperial LCM Junior Olympics last summer.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 28.10
  • 100 back – 59.15
  • 200 back – 2:09.65
  • 50 free – 24.82
  • 100 fee – 54.66

A current senior at Cathedral Catholic High School, Torykian competed on her team’s 4×50 medley relay at the CIF State Championships in 2019. She also finished seventh in the 100 back as a sophomore at the CIF San Diego Section 2 Championships.
