Lady Vols Add Another for 2021-22 Season from Olympic Trials Qualifier Cory Shanks

NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Cory Shanks of League City, Texas, has given the University of Tennessee another verbal commitment for their growing class of 2025.

She’ll arrive in Knoxville for the start of the 2021-22 season along with Amber Myers, Sara Stotler, Kate McCarville, Lauren Wetherell, Summer Eaker, Josephine Fuller, Summer Smith and Asia Minnes.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m extremely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee!! I would like to thank my family, friends and my coaches for the unconditional support which led me to where I am now! I cannot wait to be a Volunteer in the class of 2025!”

Shanks does her club swimming with South Shore Sails and owns the Olympic Trials cut in the 100m free with three additional Nationals standards. She most recently earned 100% best times at College Station Sectionals where she had four top-8 finishes. Last summer, she earned silver in the 50m free at Southern Zone Seniors.

50 free – 22.97 (26.02)
100 free – 49.27 (56.07) **Olympic Trials cut**
200 free – 1:48.20 (2:06.06)
100 back – 55.00 (1:04.03)

A current junior at Clear Creek High School, Shanks is a four-time Texas 6A State Championship finalist. She placed sixth in the 200 free and ninth in the 100 free as a sophomore while taking 14th and ninth, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
