NEW COMMIT: Charlotte, N.C. freestyler Summer Eaker has handed the University of Tennessee their fourth early verbal commitment for the class of 2025. She’ll arrive in Knoxville for the start of the 2021-22 season along with Josephine Fuller, Summer Smith and Asia Minnes.

A rangy freestyler, Eaker does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and is a four-time U.S. Open qualifier. She most recently placed seventh in the 1500m free, 10th in the 400m free, and 17th in the 800m free at Junior Nationals this past summer after winning the 400m/800m free combo at NC LCM Seniors. Last winter, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American recorded five best times at the Southern Premier Invitational before going on to earn silver in the 1000 free at Greensboro Sectionals. A current junior at Bradford Prep School, Eaker was the runner-up in both the 200 free and 500 free as a sophomore at the North Carolina 1A/2A State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so honored and thrilled to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Tennessee! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me on this journey. I can’t wait to be part of the Lady Vol family! #GBO”

In SCY, her best times include:

  • 50 free: 23.83
  • 100 free: 51.96
  • 200 free: 1:49.69
  • 500 free: 4:56.94
  • 1000 free: 9:57.33
  • 1650 free: 16:51.87

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m free: 26.63
  • 100m free: 57.72
  • 200m free: 2:04.29
  • 400m free: 4:18.87
  • 800m free: 8:54.97
  • 1500m free: 16:57.55

Eaker has made massive improvements over the past two years, dropping 15 seconds in the 200 free, 32 seconds in the 500 free, and nearly two minutes in both the 1000 free and mile. With just under two years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Lady Vols in the fall of 2021, she’ll surely continue to improve and will become a valuable asset to Tennessee’s distance group.

I’m not sure I would want a quickly-improving label
