Krista Wheeler Changes Commitment from Alabama to Louisville; Will Join Sister in 2021

NEW COMMIT: After originally committing to AlabamaKrista Wheeler has changed her decision and will remain close to home with a verbal pledge to the University of Louisville beginning in the 2021-22 season.

The Louisville, Ky. native will join her older sister, Kaylee Wheeler, who is currently a junior breaststroker for the Cardinals.

She will also join Fernanda Celidonio, Kim HerkleMadie Hall and Adry Kasemets as a member of the Cardinals’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

No stranger to UofL’s program, Wheeler does her club swimming with Cardinal Aquatics and is primarily a backstroker and freestyler. The U.S. Open qualifier swept both backstroke events at the 18&U Winter Championships in December and placed 20th in the 100m back at the 2020 Des Moines TYR Pro Swim Series.

In Summer 2019, she grabbed bronze in the 100m back at the Kentucky LCM Championships and took fifth in the 50m back at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 53.27
  • 200 back – 1:57.95
  • 50 free – 23.23
  • 100 free – 50.54
  • 200 free – 1:50.04
  • 500 free – 4:57.38
  • 100 breast – 1:04.37
  • 100 fly – 55.30
  • 200 IM – 2:03.93

A current senior at Louisville Collegiate School, Wheeler is a six-time Kentucky State Championship finalist and two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She finished second in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free as a junior, was the runner-up in both the 100 free and 100 back as a sophomore, and placed second in the 100 back and fifth in the 100 fly as a freshman.

Under head coach Arthur Albiero, the Cardinals finished third at the ACC Championships and 13th at NCAAs last weekend.
