NEW COMMIT: The University of Louisville has added a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Brasília, Brazil native Fernanda Celidonio.

She will join Kim HerkleMadie Hall and Adry Kasemets as a member of the Cardinals’ class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Louisville. It was always my dream to study in a university where I could became my best version as a student and an athlete, and today I’m so proud to say that the dream came true. I wanted to thank my parents and my coaches for being by my side all the time and always supporting me. 😁 GO CARDS!!!!!!”

Primarily a backstroker, Celidonio trains year-round with Minas Tenis Clube and most recently recorded a best time in the 200m IM at Troféu Chico Piscina. Last summer, she had a strong showing at the Brasileiro juvenil de inverno meet before going on to final in five events at Supercopa de Natação – Campeonato Mineiro.

When she arrives in Louisville in the fall of 2021, Celidonio will have three years of overlap with incoming first-years Tristen Ulett, Paige Hetrick and Paige McCormick who will look to replenish the Cardinals’ backstroke group following the graduation of rising senior Ashlyn Schoof.

Soon-to-be junior Maria Sumida also hails from Brazil.

Celidonio’s best times (converted to yards) are just on the edge of scoring range in the 100/200 back as well as the 200 IM at the ACC Championship level. Under head coach Arthur Albiero, the Cardinals finished third at the conference meet this past season.
