NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Grayson Nye of Apex, North Carolina.

He will join Alex Gallagher and Chase Swearingen in Lexington as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2028.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Kentucky and become part of the Wildcats family! Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, friends, and family for supporting me through it all. Go Cats!”

Nye does his club swimming with TAC Titans and most recently placed second in the 200m breast and sixth in the 100m breast at Cary Futures this past summer. Back in March, he raced to third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 100 breast at Cary Sectionals.

He currently owns the North Carolina Swimming LSC record in the 200m breast at 2:15.53, which was set at Cary Futures.

His best times include:

  • 200m Breast – 2:15.53
  • 200 Breast – 1:59.63
  • 100m Breast – 1:03.38
  • 100 Breast -55.46
  • 400m IM – 4:39.86
  • 400 IM – 4:00.35
  • 200m IM – 2:10.72
  • 200 IM – 1:51.83

Currently a junior at Middle Creek High School, Nye is a USA Swimming Scholastic and NISCA All-American. He won the 100 breast at the North Carolina 4A State Championships last season, also taking fifth in the 200 IM. He earned bronze in the 100 breast as a freshman.

Kentucky is starting to rebuild its breaststroke group, as Gallagher is also a breaststroker. Nye’s best 100 breast time would’ve ranked second on UK’s lineup last season while his 200 breast would’ve been third.
