Kentucky Wildcats Score 2024 Verbal From Breaststroker Alex Gallagher

Alex Gallagher 2024 Kentucky Commit

NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has picked up a new verbal commitment for Fall 2024 from U.S. Open qualifier Alex Gallagher of Hudson, Ohio.

He will join fellow Ohio native Chase Swearingen in Lexington as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2028.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky to continue my academic and swimming careers! I’m thankful for the constant support of my family, teammates and friends throughout the years. A huge thanks to Coach Matt Davis and all of my HEAT, HHS and GYB coaches who have helped me to reach this goal. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Lars Jorgensen, Coach Michael Camper and Coach Jordan Lieberman for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this amazing program.. Go Cats”

Gallagher trains year-round with Hudson Explorer Aquatic Team and placed 11th in the 200m breast and 12th in the 100m breast at Geneva Futures this past summer after taking sixth and 11th, respectively, in those events at Cleveland Sectionals. Back in March, he raced to 17th in the 200 breast at the NCSA Spring Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.23
  • 200 breast – 2:00.17
  • 200 IM – 1:51.12
  • 400 IM – 4:03.00

Currently a junior at Hudson High School, Gallagher placed fifth in the 100 breast and ninth in the 200 IM last season at the Ohio State Championships while taking sixth and 12th, respectively, in those events as a freshman. He’s also a NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Gallagher is a great pickup for the Wildcats both individually and on medley relays, as his 100 breast time would’ve been the fastest on UK’s roster a season ago
