Kaii Winkler Shines As Bolles Sweeps Florida 1A State Championship Titles

The 2022 Florida 1A State Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Staurt, Fla.

Kaii Winkler stole the show, breaking the 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100 free with a blazing time of 42.52. His performance bettered the previous standard in the 15-16 classification of 42.67. The old mark was set in 2014 by Ryan Hoffer, who went on to enjoy an NCAA-championship career at Cal.

Prior to breaking the NAG record in the 100 free, Winkler, a sophomore who is homeschooled, shined in the 200 freestyle, where he clocked a winning mark of 1:34.18. That time was less than a second off the NAG mark of 1:33.30, set in 2017 by future Olympian Drew Kibler.

Erika Pelaez also broke a state record at the meet, doing so in the 100 fly with a winning time of 52.12. She then followed up that performance with a state record in the 100 back, stopping the clock in a swift 51.78. The NC State commit is a junior who is homeschooled.

Another NC State commitWill Heck, broke his own state record in the 100 breast during prelims with a time of 52.38. He was slightly off that time during prelims, finishing in 53.60. Heck is in his senior year at Bolles.
