NEW COMMIT: The University of Minnesota has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from King of Prussia, Penn. breaststroker Antonio Octaviano.

Octaviano, who owns the U.S. Open standard in the 100 breast with the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 breast, does his club swimming with Radnor Aquatic Club and most recently earned a best time at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors. Last winter, he placed seventh in the 100 breast at Juniors East before going on to register a pair of top-10 finishes at Buffalo Speedo Sectionals.

Also competing for The Haverford School, Octaviano is a six-time Eastern Interscholastic Championship finalist. The two-time NISCA All-American earned gold in the 100 breast and took 10th in the 100 fly as a junior after finishing second and eighth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“The coaches from Minnesota were with me since day one of recruiting. As soon as I visited and got a taste of the team camaraderie, I instantly knew that this place was going to be my second home. Cant wait to represent the golden gophers! SkiUMah”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 54.58
  • 200 breast – 2:03.39
  • 200 IM – 1:56.32
  • 100 fly – 50.36
  • 50 free – 21.41

When he suits up for the Golden Gophers as a member of the class of 2024, Octaviano will have two years of overlap with NCAA runner-up Max McHugh as well as future classmate Brock Aune. He would’ve swum in the C-final of the 100 breast at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where Minnesota finished fifth overall in the team standings.
