NEW COMMIT: Brock Aune of Brussels, Wis., has announced his decision to attend the University of Minnesota as a member of the Golden Gophers’ class of 2024.

Aune does his club swimming with Door County YMCA and most recently finished seventh in the 50m breast at YMCA LCM Nationals after racing a pair of events at Minneapolis Speedo Sectionals this summer. He won both the 100 breast and 200 breast at the Wisconsin YMCA State Championships in March before going on to final in the former event at YMCA SCY Nationals in April.

Also competing for Sturgeon Bay High School, Aune is a four-time Wisconsin DII State Championship finalist. He earned silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 50 free as a junior after placing second in the 100 breast as well as seventh in the 100 free during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Minnesota. I’d like to thank Coach Kelly and the Minnesota coaching staff for this opportunity, as well as everyone who has supported me along the way. There are so many B1G things to come and I can’t wait to be a Gopher next fall! Ski-U-Mah!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 57.60
  • 200 breast – 2:08.45
  • 50 free – 21.99

When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2020, Aune will have two years of overlap with top Minnesota breaststroker Max McHugh, a two-time NCAA finalist as a freshman. Although he’s not in scoring range at the Big Ten Championships just yet, Aune has continuously made improvements; over the past two seasons, he has dropped four seconds in the 100 breast, 10 seconds in the 100 breast and two seconds in the 50 free.
