Juniors East Finalist Gaby Van Brunt Sends 2023 Verbal to Alabama

NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has picked up its third verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2027 from Olympic Trials qualifier Gaby Van Brunt of Savannah, Georgia.

She will join Laurel Blase and Sydney Blackhurst in Tuscaloosa at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce that I am going to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Alabama! I would love to thank my family, friends, and coaches for getting me to this point! Roll Tide!!”

Van Brunt does her club swimming with Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team and most recently placed sixth in the 100 fly and 11th in the 100 back at the Speedo Winter East Championships. This past summer, she recorded four top-8 finishes at Georgia LCM Seniors before going on to take ninth in the 100m fly at the Speedo Summer East Championships.

At Wave I of Olympic Trials, she competed in the 100m fly, racing to 28th overall.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.85
  • 100 free – 49.89
  • 50 back – 25.82
  • 100 back – 53.91
  • 50 fly – 25.16
  • 100 fly – 53.72

Currently a junior at St. Andrew’s School, Van Brunt is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

The Crimson Tide is fresh off a historic season that included a fourth-place showing at the SEC Championships and a fifth-place finish at NCAAs. Alabama won the 4×100 freestyle relay at NCAAs, earning the school’s first-ever relay title in program history on the women’s side.
