Junior National Finalist Avery Mehok Pledges Verbal to Kentucky

NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season, this time from Avery Mehok of Cedar Park, Texas.

She will join Bailey O’Regan, Taylor Grimley and Emma Finlin have also announced their commitment to the Wildcats’ Class of 2028.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University Of Kentucky!! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for all the support and encouragement through everything!! Go Cats!”
Mehok trains year-round with Nitro Swimming and most recently competed at Juniors West where she earned best times in all of her events and qualified for finals in the 200 free. This past summer, she earned bronze in the 100m back at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.03
  • 100 back – 55.14
  • 200 back – 1:59.19
  • 50 free – 23.86
  • 100 free – 50.90
  • 200 free – 1:49.25

Kentucky is coming off yet another successful season in 2021-22. They concluded the SEC Championships as the team runner-up with 1043 points, their second-highest finish and second-most point total ever at the SEC Championships. The Wildcats’ NCAA finish of 12th with 115.5 points matched their second-best team finish and marked the second-most points scored in school history.

The 2020-21 season was also one of the history books for the UK women’s team, culminating with the Wildcats winning their first-ever SEC title with a program-record 1,124 points under head coach Lars Jorgensen.
