NEW COMMIT: Backstroker and freestyler Aaron Sequeira of Cincinnati, Ohio, has verbally committed to Stanford University and will arrive on campus as a member of the class of 2024.

Sequeira does his club swimming with Cincinnati Marlins and owns the Olympic Trials cuts in both backstroke events with four additional U.S. Open cuts. He placed fifth in the 200m back and ninth in the 100m back at Junior Nationals this past summer where he earned 100% best times. At Juniors East in December, he finished 17th in the 100 back and 22nd in the 200 back before going on to win both the 100 and 200 back at TYR Junior Nationals.

A current senior at Walnut Hills High School, the NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a six-time Ohio State Championship finalist. Sequeira was the 100 back runner-up and earned bronze in the 200 free as a junior after racing to fifth in the 100 back and seventh in the 200 IM during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Stanford University. I am very grateful for my family, coaches, and teachers who have helped me along the way. The future is bright on the farm, and I am eager to be a part of such a storied team with amazing teammates and coaches! #fearthetree”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.63
  • 100 back – 47.81
  • 200 back – 1:45.67
  • 50 free – 20.74
  • 100 free – 45.24
  • 200 free – 1:37.47
  • 100 fly – 50.70

Sequeira will add valuable backstroke depth to the Cardinal’s lineup when he suits up for new head coach Dan Schemmel at the start of the 2020-21 season. With just under a year of club swimming still to go before arriving on The Farm, Sequeira will look to capitalize on his recent long course success heading into the upcoming short course season. He’ll also join Preston Forst and Luke Maurer next fall.
