NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Jered Poland of Denham Springs, La. has announced his verbal commitment to University of Montevallo. He is the first-ever recruit for the Falcons who will begin their inaugural season under new head coach Aaron Mahaney next fall.

Poland does his club swimming with Crawfish Aquatics and capped off a strong summer season by finishing seventh in the 200m breast and ninth in the 100m breast at the LA 13&O Championships. He also earned the bronze in the 100 breast at the LA 13&O Championships in March. Poland is a two-time Louisiana State Championship finalist in the 100 breast: he finished eighth as a sophomore and 13th during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“My journey throughout swimming has been outstanding. I never thought this would happen to me when I started swimming in 2012. A million thanks to my family, friends and the coaches that have coached and will be coaching me to be better than my best. Being part of the first-year recruitment of Montevallo will truly be an experience I’ll forever treasure! I’m very excited to see how the swim team will grow as a family and as a team!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.05
  • 200 breast – 2:20.53
  • 50 free – 24.11

Stewart III announced the addition of men’s and women’s swimming as intercollegiate sports within the athletic department in March of 2018. The addition of men’s and women’s swimming gives Montevallo 21 intercollegiate sports. The announcement marks the addition of the 10th new intercollegiate sport added at Montevallo within the past six years.
