PHOENIX, Arizona, December 26, CHINA made a huge move in potentially upgrading its Olympic medal count after signing top synchronized swimming coach Masayo Imura away from Japan according to reports from Xinhua News.
"I believe Japan's international profile and leadership in the sport will improve if a person from the country coaches the national team of an Olympic host," Imura said of her move.
Imura, known as Japan's Godmother of Synchro, led Japan to three gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the Asian and Olympic Games.
The contract will run through September 2008, and Imura will make her first appearance at the helm of the Chinese contingent at the World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
