James Madison Secures 2021 Verbal Commitments from Erin Jachym, Abby Zindler

NEW COMMITS: James Madison University has recently scored a pair of verbal commitments for the fall of 2021 from Westfield, Mass. native Erin Jachym and Abby Zindler of Oak Hill, Va.

Both Junior National qualifiers will will join Suzanne Harris, Rachel McCoy, and Grace Bousom in Harrisonburg as a member of the Dukes’ class of 2025.

Under head coach Dane Pederson, James Madison secured their third-straight team title at the 2020 CAA Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m SO beyond thrilled and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at James Madison University! Thank you to all of my coaches, friends/teammates who have helped me get to where I am today. And ESPECIALLY my mom. GO DUKES!!”

A talented distance freestyler, Jachym swims year-round with Bluefish Swim Club and registered five top-20 finishes at New England Seniors after finishing 23rd in the mile at Juniors East. Last summer, she had a strong showing at New England LCM Seniors where her highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 400m free and competed at Phillips 66 Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:51.86
  • 500 free – 4:54.01
  • 1000 free – 10:04.90
  • 1650 free – 16:48.50

Also competing for Suffield Academy, Jachym was the 500 free runner-up and placed fifth in the 200 free during her junior campaign at the New England DI Prep School Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at James Madison University! I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for all of their love and support. I am thankful to be a part of the JMU family!! Go Dukes!”

Primarily a breaststroker, Zindler does her club swimming with Machine Aquatics and placed fourth in the 100 breast at Potomac Valley Seniors in March where she also achieved three lifetime bests. She finaled in the 200m breast at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors last long course season before going on to race seven events at Eastern Zone Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.54
  • 100 breast – 1:02.71
  • 200 breast – 2:19.48

A rising senior at Oakton High School, Zindler is a three-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. She placed fourth in the 100 breast and 15th in the 100 fly as a junior while taking 10th in the former event during her sophomore season.
