James Madison Secures 2021 Verbal Commitments from Suzanne Harris and Rachel McCoy

NEW COMMITS: James Madison University has recently scored a pair of verbal commitments for the fall of 2021 from Roanoke, Va. native Suzanne Harris and Rachel McCoy of Mount Airy, Md.

Both swimmers will join Grace Bousom in Harrisonburg as a member of the Dukes’ class of 2025. Under head coach Dane Pederson, James Madison secured their third-straight team title at the 2020 CAA Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at James Madison University! Thank you to my coaches, family, and friends for their support along the way! I can’t wait to be a Duke!”

A talented IMer and breaststroker, Harris swims year-round with Virginia Gators and placed ninth in the 200m breast at TYR Summer Seniors this past summer and took fourth in the 200 IM at TYR Junior Nationals last spring. A current junior at Cave Spring High School, she is a six-time Virginia 3A State Championship finalist and won the 200 IM as a sophomore.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:06.12
  • 400 IM – 4:30.05
  • 100 breast – 1:06.54
  • 200 breast – 2:21.92

RACHEL MCCOY

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to James Madison University to continue my swimming and academic career. Thank you to my parents, coaches and teammates who got me here. Go Dukes! ??”

Primarily a butterflyer, McCoy does her club swimming with Monocacy Aquatic Club and most recently finished seventh in the 200 fly and ninth in the 100 fly at Maryland Seniors. Last summer, she earned 100% best times at the NBAC LCM Championships before going on to race three events at Geneva Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 56.26
  • 200 fly – 2:03.93
  • 50 free – 24.38
  • 100 free – 52.81
