James Guy Repeats at British Championships
On the opening day’s competition at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, Scotland, James Guy won the 200-meter butterfly at the British Championships on Thursday for the second year in a row.
Guy, from Bath University, won in 1:58.05, more than a second ahead of the rest of the field.
Daniel Jervis earned the of the day winning the 1500 free in 15:01.87, 15 seconds ahead of the field.
University of Edinburgh’s Kathryn Greenslade won the 200 free in 1:58.53.
Aberdeen Performance’s Hannah Miley took the gold in the 400 IM (4:38.91). She technically finished behind Mireia Belmonte (4:38.68) of Spain, who was swimming in the meet, but is not British.
Nicholas Pyle from Newcastle beat last year’s title holder Chris Walker-Hebborn in the 50 backstroke, with Edinburgh University’s Lucy Hope taking the women’s title.
Harriet Jones from City of Cardiff won the 100 fly (58.85), narrowly beating last year’s champion Alys Thomas (58.91) from Swansea Aquatics. Emily Large, 17, from Newcastle set a new youth record of 59.60 in the race.
Lewis Burras from Southport won the 100 free (49.89).
In the day’s junior competitions Luke Turley from Hatfield win the 100 Freestyle; Team Bath’s Laura McNab won the 200 Freestyle; Charlie Hutchison took the 200 men’s butterfly; Gaia Alcaras from Aberdeen Performance claimed the 100 butterfly with Daisy Anderson of Thanet Swim Club winning the 400 IM.
