Texas’ Jack Conger, the American record-holder, charged to the eighth-fastest men’s 200-yard fly at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Championships.
Conger, who put up a 1:39.31 during a time trial in February of 2015 to break the American record, chased down the top seed today in 1:40.04.

Conger is looking to become the third Longhorn ever to win this event. Rainer Kendrick won the short course meter version in 2004 with a 1:54.97, while Joseph Schooling captured the title last year with a 1:39.62.
Michigan’s Dylan Bosch, the NCAA-record holder with a 1:39.33 from his 2014 NCAA title, qualified second in 1:40.70. Schooling, meanwhile, qualified third in 1:41.16.
California’s Andrew Seliskar (1:41.29), Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz (1:41.57), NC State’s Christian McCurdy (1:41.59), Auburn’s Hugo Morris (1:41.64) and Georgia’s Pace Clark (1:42.07) rounded out the top eight.
