IPC Awards 2010 Paralympic World Championships to Eindhoven
SEOUL, Korea, November 22. YESTERDAY, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) today announced the winning bid for the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships. The event will take place in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Eindhoven won out over Minneapolis, Minn.
To ensure high quality Championships, the IPC revised its bid application process last year. In Nov. 2006, the IPC called for bid applications from all over the world to host the IPC World Championships in Athletics and Swimming. As a second step, particular bid authorities were deemed as viable candidates and were required to complete a detailed bid application. During the review and evaluation stage, site visits were conducted and all bid applicants had the opportunity to submit further details of their bid proposal.
In addition, all bid applicants presented their final bid proposals to the IPC World Championships Bid Evaluation Committee in November in Bonn, Germany. Recommendations from the Committee were considered and approved by the IPC Governing Board at their meeting in Seoul, Korea. After an extensive bid review process, the IPC Governing Board made its decision based upon a detailed review and evaluation of the bid documents and commitments.
Special thanks to the IPC for contributing to this report.
