Ilya Borodin Sets Second Record Of The Week With New 400IM Mark At Russian Championships

Ilya Borodin lowered his own Russian mark to 4:11.50 in the 400IM for his second record-breaking swim of the Russian Championships in Kazan.

The 17-year-old had set a new mark of 1:58.00 in the 200IM on the opening night at the Aquatics Palace and he returned on Thursday where his only contest was against the clock which he stopped more than eight seconds ahead of the next man.

Borodin had set the previous national record of 4:12.95 en-route to silver at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

On Thursday he led from start to touch: he was three seconds at halfway, a lead he extended by a further two seconds at the 300m mark before he came home in 58.86 on the freestyle leg to take a 1.45-sec chunk off his previous record.

Sergei Isaev was second in 4:19.82.

Kostin In Swift Flight To The Wall; Bykova Drops Speedy Anchor

World silver medallist Oleg Kostin won the 50 fly in a very swift 22.82, two days after taking third over 100 fly.

Andrei Minakov won the two-length race and was runner-up over 50 in 23.22.

Daria Vaskina won the 50 back title in 28.13 and Aleksandra Khailova touched first in the fastest 1500 free heat in 16:35.38.

St Petersburg won the women’s 4×100 free in 3:42.11, featuring an anchor leg of 54.67 by European silver relay medallist Aleksandra Bykova.

Grinev Leads The Way Into 100 Free Final

World bronze medallist Vladislav Grinev posted notice of his intent when he headed the semis of the 100 free in 48.33, indicative of a speedy time in Friday’s final. Daniel Shatalov was second through in 49.18.

Vlad Morozov is not competing in Kazan but is instead representing Tokyo Frog Kings at the ISL in Budapest, Hungary.

Anastasia Markova heads the 100 fly in 59.73 and Kirill Strelnikov leads the way in the 50br in 27.21.
