NEW COMMIT: Georgetown University has picked up a verbal commitment from versatile Josiah Lauver of Harrisburg, Penn. He will join Michael Baldini as a member of the class of 2023.

Lauver does his club swimming with West Shore YMCA and has earned a Winter Nationals cut in the 100 back. He recorded a trio of lifetime bests at YMCA Nationals in April and qualified for finals in the 50 free. He concluded his long course season with a 100m fly personal best at Middle Atlantic Senior LCM Championships.

Lauver also swims for Bishop McDevitt High School where he is a five-time Pennsylvania 2A State finalist. He won the 200 free and 100 back as a junior en route to being named Swimmer of the Meet and PennLive Swimmer of the Year. He grabbed bronze in the 100 back as a sophomore and has earned NISCA All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at Georgetown University! I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing family atmosphere with the opportunity to study at such an outstanding academic institution. I have been blessed to have so many  supportive coaches, teammates, friends and family that helped me reach this point. GO HOYAS!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 49.70
  • 200 back – 1:53.16
  • 200 free – 1:39.24
  • 100 free – 46.67
  • 50 free – 21.13
  • 100 fly – 51.09
  • 200 IM – 1:57.24

Lauver will make an immediate impact for the Hoyas when he arrives in D.C. for the 2019-20 season. He would’ve scored in the A-final at the 2018 Big East Championships in the 100 back and will have two seasons to train with two-time conference champion Drew Carbone.
