NEW COMMIT: Naperville, Ill. native Grant Bochenski and Ethan Roach of Parkville, Mo. have both announced their verbal commitments to the University of Missouri beginning in the fall of 2021.

Both swimmers will join Ty Spillane and Cade Oliver as a member of the Tigers’ class of 2025.

GRANT BOCHENSKI

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Missouri. Go Tigers.”

A talented sprint backstroker and freestyler, Bochenski swims year-round with Maverick Swim Club and owns three Junior National cuts. He most recently won the 100 free and the 100 back at Illinois Seniors and earned seven best times at NCSAs in 2019. Last summer, he took eighth in the 100 back at Illinois LCM Seniors and finaled at Minneapolis Sectionals.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.79
  • 100 back – 48.72
  • 50 free – 20.74
  • 100 free – 44.51

Also competing for Naperville North High School, Bochenski has competed at the Illinois State Championships the past two seasons. He earned bronze in the 100 free and placed seventh in the 100 back as a junior.

ETHAN ROACH

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I chose the University of Missouri because of many reasons. They have a great program for starters full of great coaches and staff. I had no doubt I would be in good hands choosing Mizzou. The university is in state and I qualify for academic scholarships, so money will be less of a burden. My tipping point was when I got to meet the team over zoom. They were a great group of guys, and I have no doubt I will fit in perfectly with the guys. I still have work to do to get to the level I believe I can be at, but I know the University of Missouri will be an amazing place to continue the next steps of my swimming and academic careers.”

Also primarily a spring backstroker and freestyler, Roach does his club swimming with Tsunami Swim Team of KC and recently took fourth in the 100 back at the Missouri Valley Championships. He finaled in the 100m back at Gainesville Sectionals last summer before going on to achieve five lifetime bests at NCSAs.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.70
  • 100 free – 45.84
  • 100 back – 51.45

A rising senior at Park Hill South High School, Roach earned bronze in both the 100 free and 100 back as a junior at the Missouri Class 1 State Championships. While competing for Spanish River High School as a sophomore, he raced to 10th in the 100 back and 14th in the 200 IM at the Florida 4A state meet.
