Golden Bears Add Another to Loaded Class of 2025; Daniela Cogswell Verbals to Cal

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has added yet another impressive verbal commitment to their growing class of 2025 from Daniela Cogswell of Dubai.

She will join Fanni FabianLea PolonskyAlicia HenryStephanie AkakabotaElizabeth CookMelanie JuliaShelby SuppigerElla MazurekAnnika McEnroeJessica DavisMia Kragh and McKenna Stone as a member of the Golden Bears for the fall of 2021.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to UC – Berkeley! I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and friends for all the support. Big thanks goes out to Coach Ash Morris and of course to my future coaches, Coach McKeever & Coach Korman for this great opportunity. Go Bears!!”

A talented sprint freestyler and backstroker, Cogswell trains year-round with Hamilton Aquatics. She most recently earned four best times at the Middle East Open Championships in February and finaled in the 50m back at the Euro Meet in January. 

Last summer, she won gold in the 50m free, silver in the 100m back, and bronze in the 100m free at Spanish Summer Nationals. Cogswell also finished seventh in the 50m free and advanced to the semifinals of the 50, 100, and 200 back at the Spanish Spring Nationals in April 2019.

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m free – 26.16
  • 100m free – 57.25
  • 200m free – 2:07.85
  • 50m back – 29.76
  • 100m back – 1:04.77

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 50 free – 23.10
  • 100 free – 50.67
  • 200 free – 1:52.36
  • 50 back – 25:30
  • 100 back – 55.98

Cogswell will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when she suits up for the Golden Bears in the fall of 2021. She will join training groups that’ll include Eloise Riley, Izzy Ivey, and Isabelle Stadden. Under head coach Teri McKeever, the Golden Bears finished second at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships and were the team runners-up at NCAAs in 2019.
