NEW COMMIT: Spartansburg, South Carolina native Annika McEnroe has announced her verbal commitment to the University of California, Berkeley and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2021.

She will join Jessica Davis, Mia Kragh and McKenna Stone as a member of Cal’s class of 2025.

McEnroe does her club swimming with Y-Spartaquatics/Greater Spartanburg YMCA and owns seven Junior National or faster standards. She most recently finaled in the 200m breast at the Toyota U.S. Open last month and earned four silver medals at the South Carolina Championships last winter. This past summer, she achieved 100% best times at Junior Nationals where she placed third in the 200m breast and fifth in the 400m IM.

A current junior at Spartanburg High School, McEnroe is a six-time South Carolina 5A State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back and 100 fly as a junior after taking second in both of those events during her sophomore season.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.99
  • 200 fly – 1:58.27
  • 200 IM – 2:00.39
  • 400 IM – 4:12.94
  • 200 breast – 2:12.43

She has already achieved 2 Olympic Trials cuts:

  • 200m breast – 2:31.53
  • 400m IM – 4:51.76

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Golden Bears, McEnroe will add valuable depth to their breaststroke and IM group.  She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 breast and 400 IM as well as the C-final of the 200 IM at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships where Cal finished second overall in the team standings. She has already achieved the 2019-20 NCAA ‘B’ standard in both the 200 breast and 400 IM as well.
