NEW COMMIT: Littleton, Colo. native Avery Turney has announced her verbal commitment* to continue her athletic and academic career at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Evie Krall, Jenna Reznicek, Sara Barrett and Ellie Brault as a member of the Bears’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Brown University, where I will continue to pursue my goals in the water and have the opportunity to learn at such a prestigious school! A big thanks to my friends, family, and coaches who helped me get to this point! #gobruno”

A talented sprint freestyler, Turney does her club swimming with Foothills Swim Team and earned a best time in the 50 free at Juniors West in December. Last summer, she sprinted to fifth place in the 50m free before going on to take 10th in that event at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include (SCY/LCM):

  • 50 free – 23.59/26.64
  • 100 free – 51.43/59.09
  • 200 free – 1:52.73/2:09.18

The school record-holder in the 50/100 free at Chatfield High School, Turney is a four-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed seventh in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free as a junior while taking seventh and sixth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Turney is a huge pick up for Brown both individually and on relays and she will make an immediate impact when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season.
