Brown Lands First Class of 2025 Verbal Commitments from Sara Barrett, Ellie Brault

NEW COMMITS: Brown University has received a pair of verbal commitments* for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Chatham, N.J. native Sara Barrett and Ellie Brault of Geneva, Ill., cracking open their Class of 2025 recruiting.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Brown University!! I am beyond grateful for all of my friends, family, teammates, and coaches who have supported me unconditionally throughout everything!! I can’t wait to join this amazing team 🙂 GO BRUNO”

A talented distance freestyler, Barrett swims year-round with Berkeley Aquatic Club and earned seven best times at the STAR Invitational in December where she won the 1000 free and mile. Last summer, she placed fifth in the 1500m free, seventh in the 800m free, and 11th in the 400m free at Eastern Zone Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:53.82
  • 500 free – 4:56.76
  • 1000 free – 10:15.90
  • 1650 free – 16:55.01

Also competing for Chatham High School, Barrett is a five-time New Jersey Meet of Champions finalist. She finished fifth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free as a junior while taking seventh and 15th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to enter the likely letter process at brown university! a huge “thank you” goes out to my family, friends, coaches, and mentors for their unwavering support through the years! here’s to the next 4!! #gobruno”

Primarily a breaststroker and IMer, Brault is a Junior National qualifier who does her club swimming with Saint Charles Swim Team. He was the 100 breast runner-up and took fourth in the 400 IM at Illinois Seniors where she notched five lifetime bests. She also finaled in three events at Minneapolis Sectionals last long course season.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.85
  • 200 breast – 2:17.51
  • 200 IM – 2:04.17
  • 400 IM – 4:23.66

A rising senior at Rosary High School, Brault is a three-time Illinois State Championship finalist. She raced to fifth place in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 breast while finishing eighth in the latter event during her sophomore campaign.
