From Club Teammates to College Teammates: Dynamo’s Catie Choate, Alex Mitchell Verbal to Florida for 2023

NEW COMMITS: The University of Florida has continued to build a powerhouse Class of 2027, recently landing two more verbal pledges from Peachtree Corners, Ga. native Catie Choate and Alex Mitchell of Brookhaven, Ga.

Both swimmers trains year-round with Dynamo Swim Club.

Choate and Mitchell will join Melissa Cowen, Lainy KrugerBella Sims, Grace RaineyJoJo Ramey and Michaela Mattes in Gainesville as a member of the Gators’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Florida!! All thanks to God, my family, coaches, and friends for helping me get to where I am today! I can’t wait to be a Gator! Go Gators!!!???

Choate recently had a great showing at the Speedo Winter East Championships, earning eight best times and placing seventh in the 200 back as well as ninth in the 100 back. This past summer, she raced to 14th in the 100m back at Wave I of Olympic Trials before going on to earn silver in the 100m/200m back at Huntsville Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 200 back – 1:55.43
  • 100 back – 53.48
  • 50 back – 25.85
  • 100 fly – 54.41
  • 50 free – 23.27
  • 100 free – 51.05
  • 200 free – 1:48.95
  • 200 IM – 2:02.51

Currently a junior at Norcross High School, Choate is already a four-time individual Georgia 7A State Championship finalist. She won the 100 back and was the runner-up in the 100 fly as a sophomore while taking first in the 100 back and second in the 100 free as a freshman.

ALEX MITCHELL

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Florida!!! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for their endless support through this process! Can’t wait to be a gator???

Mitchell also had a stellar showing at the Speedo Winter East Championships, placing sixth in the mile and seventh in the 500 free en route to notching a total of five new best times. She finaled in five events last summer at Georgia LCM Seniors, including a fourth-place showing in the 400m free.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:48.93
  • 500 free – 4:49.25
  • 1650 free – 16:40.15
  • 200 IM – 2:01.87
  • 400 IM – 4:16.66
  • 100 back – 57.20
  • 200 back – 1:57.81

When she lived in Illinois, Mitchell placed 10th in the 500 free as a freshman at the 2019 Illinois State Championships. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
