Fordham v. La Salle
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, January 19. GRANT Chin took first place in a trio of events to lead the La Salle University men's swimming and diving team to a narrow 124-119 victory over Fordham on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Explorer women fell to the Rams, 143-88.
Chin captured the top spot in the 200-yard IM (1:59.35), 200-yard butterfly (2:02.87) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.87).
Stuart Barr also had a fine day, winning two events. The junior led the way for the Explorers in the 50-yard freestyle, taking first in the event while teammates John Welsh and Dustin Gibb finished second and third, respectively. Barr also captured first place in the 200-yard backstroke.
Welsh rounded out the first-place finishes for the Explorers, as he won the 100-yard freestyle in a close finish.
The Explorers came away with a win in the 400-yard medley relay.
On the women's side, Dana Reis got La Salle off to a good start, claiming an early win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.75). Reis would later take second place in the 500-yard freestyle.
In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Carleen Caldwell and freshman Holly Biro took the top two spots.
The Explorers closed out the day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
