Flash! Florida A&M Reinstates Men’s and Women’s Swimming

October 21. FLORIDA A&M University, the only predominantly black university in the state of Florida, is reinstating men's and women's swimming.
The decision was announced by interim President Castell Bryant last evening at the Jake Gaither Athletic Center in Tallahassee during the annual Homecoming festivities.
Swimming was one of three sports the university dropped last June due to projected budgetary shortfalls. The others were men's tennis and men's golf. Cutting the three sports was projected to save about $639,000.
It turned out, however, that there was a budgetary surplus, so the university reversed its decision.
"With the identification of a university budget surplus, the decision has been made to restore the sports to competition this school year," President Bryant said.
