DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 17. THE finale of the women's 50 fly proved to be exciting as Sweden's Therese Alshammar touched out Australia's Felicity Galvez in the sprint fly event at the FINA World Short Course Championships.
Alshammar touched out Galvez, 24.87 to 24.90, for the gold medal. Both swims clipped Alshammar's meet record of 25.19 set earlier in the meet which also stood as the top-ranked time in the world heading into this race. Denmark's Jeanette Ottesen snatched the bronze medal with a time of 25.24, just missing her national record of 25.18 from Nov. 2009 as well.
