A Look At the World Aquatics Masters Championships – Kyushu 2023 Qualifying Standards

Entry times for the 19th World Aquatics Masters Championships – Kyushu 2023 in Japan have been announced.

The meet will take place Aug. 2-11, 2023, in three cities in Japan – across the Island of Kyushu, Japan in the cities of Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima.

“Holding the tournament across three cities will allow for the wide dissemination of various effects and legacies, such as promoting swimming to all generations, promoting the interaction between participants and citizens, leading to the improvement of local power by holding the tournament, and economic ripple effects,” World Aquatics wrote in its release about the competition.

There are 16 events in the World Aquatics Masters Championships. The freestyle events start with the 50 free and will also have the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free and 800 free. The backstroke events will see the 50, 100 and 200 backstrokes, while the breaststrokes will also see the 50, 100 and 200 events. In the butterfly, there will also be a 50, 100 and 200. The individual medley events will be the 200 IM and 400 IM.

In addition to the World Aquatics Masters Championships events, there will be 14 age groups spanning mostly in five-year increments starting with under 25 and ending with 90-plus. In between the age groups are capped by five-year increments – 30, 25, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80 and 85.

Each age group has a different qualifying standard in every event.

does anybody know if the Masters World Champs have heats and finals, or is it just heats. For example if you are swimming the 100m Freestyle, do you have a maximum of one swim (or do the fastest go to a final)? Thanks!

How do you calculate the age for age categories for the August 23 competition?
I am born 19 November 1943.
