FINA Short Course World Championships: Evgeny Korothyshkin Wins Very Close 100 Fly Final
DUBAI, UNited Arab Emirates, December 16. WORLD record holder Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia got his hand on the wall first in a close finish in the 100 butterfly final.
Korotyshkin won the race in 50.23, the second-fastest time of the year, bumping him up from eighth. Steffen Deibler will end the year with a top time of 49.95 from the European short course championships. Deibler finished 21st in the prelims of this event with a 51.72.
Albert Subirats of Venezuela, a two-time NCAA champion in this event, barely missed the gold with a silver medal time of 50.24, which will keep him ranked third in the world. The bronze went to Brazil's Kaio Almeida, who bumps up to fourth in the world with his 50.33.
Masayuki Kishida (50.64), Konrad Czerniak (50.75), Joeri Verlinden (50.78), Jason Dunford (50.79) and Peter Mankoc (50.85) completed a fast final. All eight swimmers now rank in the top 10 in the world with their swims in the final.
