FINA Hosts Open Water Grand Prix, 10K Marathon World Cup Events in Same Location
LAC ST. JEAN, Quebec, July 28. OVER the weekend, FINA host stops in both its Open Water Grand Prix series and 10K Marathon World Cup series in the same location in Canada.
Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria won the 32K distance Grand Prix men's event in 7:39:13. Australia's Brendan Capell placed second in 7:44:35, while Canada's Simon Tobin took third in 7:49:11.
For the women, Natalya Pankina of Russia topped the field in 8:36:35, while Australia's Shelley Clark (8:37:37) and Germany's Steffanie Biller (8:40:53) rounded out the podium.
Two days earlier, Egypt's Mazen Aziz won the men's 10K race in the World Cup series in a time of 2:04:15.84. Stoychev took second in 2:04:16.30, while Fran Crippen of the U.S. placed third in 2:04:16.87.
Germany's Angela Maurer claimed the women's title in 2:13:57.49, while Germany's Britta Kamrau-Corestein (2:14:28.58) and Australia's Lucy Redgrove (2:15:10.65) touched second and third, respectively.
