NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Gretchen Lueking of Carmel, Ind. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame beginning in the fall of 2022.

She will join Mary Codevilla, Renee Gillilan and Grace Brenneman as a member of the Fighting Irish’s Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Notre Dame. Thank you to my family, friends and coaches who have supported me along the way. Go Irish!☘️”

A versatile swimmer, Lueking trains year-round with Carmel Swim Club and placed 19th in the 200 free at Juniors East in December 2019. In Summer 2019, she posted four top-18 finishes at Indiana LCM Seniors before going on to race three events at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.67
  • 100 free – 49.76
  • 200 free – 1:46.51
  • 500 free – 4:58.68
  • 100 back – 56.77
  • 200 back – 2:00.80
  • 200 IM – 2:05.14
  • 400 IM – 4:22.24

Currently a junior at Carmel High School, Lueking is a four-time individual Indiana State Championship finalist. She won the 200 free and was the runner-up in the 100 free as a sophomore while taking fourth and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

In 2020, she split a 22.94 and 50.34, respectively, on the 4×50 and 4×100 free relays to help her team clinch their 34th-consecutive high school championship team title.

Lueking will make an immediate impact individually and on relays when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free as well as the C-final of the 100 free at the 2020 ACC Championships where Notre Dame finished fifth under head coach Michael Litzinger.
