Fighting Irish Land Verbal Commitment from Quickly-Improving Freestyler Nick Tommasone

NEW COMMIT: Freestyler Nick Tommasone of Hinsdale, Ill. has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame for the 2021-22 season and beyond.

He will join Chris GuilianoMax Myers and Owen Grimaldi with the Fighting Irish as a member of the class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Notre Dame. I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone else who has helped me along this journey. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Go Irish! ☘️”

Tommasone swims year-round with Hinsdale Swim Club and owns three Winter Junior time standards. He most recently earned silver in the 200/500 free combo and bronze in the 1000 free at Illinois Seniors after competing on two relays at Juniors West. He also achieved a best time at NCSAs in March 2019.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.95
  • 100 free – 45.34
  • 200 free – 1:39.03
  • 500 free – 4:29.18

Last summer, he notched three best times at Minneapolis Sectionals where he finaled in the 50m free. Also competing for Benet Academy, Tommasone competed at the Illinois State Championships during his sophomore season. He has also made tremendous improvements over the last two seasons, dropping two seconds in the 50 free, five seconds in the 100 free, 10 seconds in the 200 free, and 32 seconds in the 500 free.

The Fighting Irish finished sixth overall in the team standings at the 2020 ACC Championships.
