BUDAPEST, Hungary, August 5. THE European Championships continued in Budapest, Hungary with the second day of open water competition. The men's 5K and women's 10K events took place.
Italy went 1-2-3, with a bit of Greek spice thrown into the mix, in the men's 5K with Luca Ferretti topping the sprint version of open water with a 58:43.4. Teammate Simone Ercoli finished second overall in 59:00.5, while Greece's Spyridon Gianniotis tied for third with Italy's Simone Ruffini with matching 59:15.9s.
The Netherlands' Linsy Heister picked up the women's 10K triumph with a time of 2:01:06.7. Italy's Giorgia Consiglio touched second in 2:01:07.6, while Germany's Angela Maurer completed the podium with a third-place 2:01:08.2.
