East Carolina Pirates Hook 2021 In-State Verbal from SwimMAC Carolina’s Ava Yandle

NEW COMMIT: East Carolina University has scored a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Indian Trail, N.C. backstroker Ava Yandle.

She will join Katie Knorr and Reece Alexander in Greenville next year as a member of the Pirates’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at East Carolina University. I am thankful for this opportunity to further my education and continue my swimming career as a pirate.Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for the support and guidance along the way. I can’t wait to get to Greenville and be a part of the class of 2025! Go Pirates!”

Yandle does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and owns three Junior National standards. She most recently placed 11th in the 100 back and 12th in the 200 back at the Southern Premier Invitational after competing at Juniors East. Last summer, she raced to fifth in the 200m back and sixth in the 100m back at North Carolina LCM Seniors and took eighth in the former event at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.71
  • 100 back – 55.61
  • 200 back – 2:00.44
  • 100 fly – 55.31
  • 200 IM – 2:04.55

Also competing for Piedmont High School, Yandle is a six-time North Carolina 3A State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed second in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly as a junior while taking second and fourth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. She also took sixth in the 100 back and fifth in the 100 fly during her rookie campaign.
