Donohoe, Iorizzo Open Up Buffalo Sectionals With Distance Wins

Madelyn Donohoe and Kyle Iorizzo each won the opening distance events on night one of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Buffalo, NY.

The Fish’s Donohoe, who is committed to swim for Virginia beginning in 2019, began the meet with a win in the women’s 800 free with a time of 8:44.19.
North Baltimore’s Easop Lee finished a close second in 8:44.77 and Islanders’ Makayla Sargent finished third in 8:53.26.
Scarlet’s Junseo Kim (9:01.74), North Baltimore’s Allison Tomsuden (9:09.13), Weymouth’s Leigh Spicer (9:12.61), Oakland Live’s Elisabeth Lohner (9:13.94) and Cape Cod’s Tessa Mock (9:13.99) rounded out the top eight.
Scarlet’s Iorizzo, who will swim for Rider this fall, finished first in the men’s 1500 free with a time of 16:06.61.
Bluefish’s Will Barao grabbed the silver medal in 16:16.41 and Oakland Live’s Peter Corsetti earned the bronze in 16:44.65.
Executive’s Jack Januario (16:45.47), SOLO’s Ryan Hogan (16:47.38), Scarlet’s Jaehyeok Choi (16:51.46), The Fish’s Sam O’Brien (16:55.08) and Bluefish’s Joshua Parent (16:55.73) completed the top eight.
Prelims for the first full day of competition will begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. EST.
