Division II Meet Preview: Lindenwood Looks To Continue Strong Season In Quiet Week

This is a slower week in Division II swimming, with many of the teams currently ranked within the top 10 off this weekend as they begin to focus on preparing for invitationals to end the fall semester. There are still plenty of match-ups to pay attention to this week, so take a look below to see the Division II Meet Preview!

Meet Of The Week: Lindenwood vs. Maryville, Missouri St.-Louis, Saint Louis

Lindenwood University is competing against Maryville University, Saint Louis University and Missouri St.-Louis this weekend following their successful performance at the Drury Invitational last week. At that meet the men finished first among all teams and second among women. Lindenwood is currently ranked seventh (men) and tenth (women) in the country based on their performances in that meet according to collegeswimming, and are looking to continue their strong season that is setting them up for a successful end of the year in their new conference, the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference.

Serghei Golban is one of Lindenwood’s strongest performers, currently ranked in the top 10 times in the country in multiple events. His highest rank is second in the 50 freestyle, where he sits one-hundredth (20.63) behind event leader Victor Rocha Furtado from Florida Tech. The only other ranked team at the tri-meet will be Missouri St.-Louis, whose men are currently ranked 30th. The meet will kick off at 1:00pm on Saturday at home.

Florida Tech vs. Keiser

Florida Tech, which is currently ranked within the top 15 of men’s events in the country, will travel to Keiser University this weekend for one of their last dual meets of the fall semester. Keiser is currently unranked according to collegeswimming.com, and shouldn’t be too much of a challenge to Florida Tech. The Panthers strongest performer is current sophomore Victor Rocha Furtado, who is currently the top ranked swimmer in the 50 freestyle (20.62) and second in the 100 freestyle (44.92) and 100 butterfly (48.73). The meet will kick off at 2:30pm on Friday at Florida Tech.

Rollins vs. Tampa

Sunshine State Conference (SSC) rivals Rollins College and University of Tampa face off in Winter Park, FL on Rollins home turf. The Tampa Spartans have had a stellar season so far, with the Spartan women and men sweeping defending SSC Champions Florida Southern earlier this year. Rollins, who finished last in the conference on both the men’s and women’s sides, shouldn’t provide much of a challenge to Tampa. For the Tampa women, this should be their strongest season in years, led by senior Marisa Barton in the sprints, junior Britt Bayes in the distance events, and junior Sophie Long in the butterfly and IM’s. On the men’s side, senior Martin Hammer has been a top performer for the Spartans and is currently ranked third nationally in the 50 freestyle. Action kicks off at Rollins at 11:00am Saturday.

Colorado Mines vs. Colorado Mesa

Colorado Mesa University will travel to Rocky Mountain Conference rival Colorado School of Mines this weekend. Colorado Mesa finished two spots ahead of Colorado Mines on both the men’s (2nd to 4th) and women’s (3rd to 5th) sides at their conference meet last year. Mesa should continue to be the stronger team, and will be buoyed by senior Mary Saiz, who was runner-up in the 200 backstroke at NCAA’s last year and is currently ranked sixth nationally in the event (2:03.42). The meet kicks off at 10:00am at the Colorado School of Mines.
