Division II Meet Of The Week: Nova Takes Down Florida Southern At Senior Meet

The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s teams came away with victories over Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern in what was the Sharks last home dual meet of the season. The meet also served as the Sharks Senior Meet, also celebrated the careers of their 10 seniors.

The Sharks dominated the competition from start to finish, defeating the Mocs 155-107 on the women’s side and 150-112 on the men’s side while winning 21 of 28 events. That is a decisive win for the Sharks, who finished second in their conference meet last year to Florida Southern. They will now head into the conference meet undefeated in conference competition with their eyes surely set on taking the team championship at the end of the season.

The Sharks had several standout swims throughout the meet. Senior Emma Wahlstrom recorded two individual wins in the 100 free (51.13) and 200 free (1:51.10) and contributed to two relay wins in the 400 medley and 200 free relays. Those are strong swims for the senior who is setting herself up for a great end of the year. She currently leads the country in the 200 free (1:46.43) after finishing third in the event at 2016 NCAA’s. Malin Westman was another double individual event winner in the breaststrokes, winning the 100 (1:04.40) and 200 (2:18.49) in addition to helping the 400 medley relay to an event win.

On the men’s side, the Sharks also had two double event winners between juniors Franco Lupoli and Anton Lobanov. Lupoli won the men’s 200 (1:40.52) and 500  (4:36.66) freestyles while Lobanov swept the breaststrokes, going 55.55 and 2:01.18. For the Mocs, Marco Palacios was a triple event winner, taking the 100 (50.33) and 200 backstroke (1:51.60) in addition to the 100 butterfly (49.41).  

Nova Southeastern will close out their dual meet season in two weeks when they take on Keiser University in West Palm Beach, while Florida Southern will take on Indian River at home next weekend. You can see full results from the meet here.

Wrong school referenced in title… Florida Southern not Florida…
