Division I: Penn State Leads Ohio Tri-Meet
COLUMBUS, Ohio. January 27. THE Penn State women's swimming and diving team leads both Ohio State and Indiana after day one of the two-day dual meet. The women garnered first place finishes in four of eight swimming events. At the end of day one, the Penn State women lead Ohio State 120-60 and Indiana 100.50-85.50.
Seniors Sarah Haupt (Barnstable, Mass.) and Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Molly Crispell (Boalsburg, Pa.), and freshman Abby Hoisington (Leawood, Kan.) started the meet off with a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with an NCAA "B" cut time of 3:41.78.
Freshman Kaitlin O'Brien (Caldwell, N.J.) took first place in the 200-yard IM, with an NCAA "B" time of 2: 02.79. Freshmen Kelly Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) and Karie Haglund (Marietta, Ga.) finished in third and fourth place with 200 IM NCAA "B" cut times of 2:03.64 and 2:30.68 , respectively.
Hoisington's NCAA "B" cut time of 1:03.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke earned her first place. Haupt took first place in the 200-yard backstroke with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:59.18.
Biedermann earned a close second in the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA "B" time of 2: 00.92, and junior Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.) earned second in the 500-yard freestyle, with an NCAA "B" time of 4:51.96.
Day two of the dual meet begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
