NEW COMMIT: Butterflyer and sprint freestyler Grace Nuhfer of Greenwood, Ind. has pledged her verbal commitment to the University of Akron beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Julia Mauter, Kendall CraigAmelia Kane, and Abby Daniel as members of the Zips’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Akron! I am so grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout these past 11 years. I can’t wait to be a part of this supportive and hard-working team! #gozips ⚡️”

Nuhfer does her club swimming with Greenwood Gators, Inc. and was a seven-time finalist at the WTSC Holiday Championship Invitational in November where her highest finish was a third-place showing in the 200 fly. In summer 2019, she flew to 13th in the 200m fly at Indiana LCM Seniors before going on to record three best times at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 26.56
  • 100 fly – 56.39
  • 200 fly – 2:06.94
  • 50 free – 24.54
  • 100 free – 53.26

Also competing for Greenwood Community High School, Nuhfer finished 12th in the 100 fly at the Indiana State Championships during her junior season. She won that event and took fifth in the 50 free at the IHSAA Sectional Championships in 2020 after placing second and fourth, respectively, in those events in 2019.

Nuhfer will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when she gets to campus next year. Under head coach Brian Peresie, Akron clinched their seventh-straight team title at the 2020 MAC Championships.
