Akron Zips Up Pair of 2021 Verbal Commitments from Kendall Craig, Amelia Kane

Kendall Craig and Amelia Kane Verbally Commit to Akron

NEW COMMITS: The University of Akron has earned a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Evans City, Pa. native Kendall Craig and Amelia Kane of Belfast, Ireland.

Both talented swimmers will join Abby Daniel as members of the Zips’ class of 2025. Under head coach Brian Peresie, Akron clinched their seventh-straight MAC Championship title.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Akron! I want to thank my family, friends and coaches for their constant and continued support. So happy to be a Zip!”

A talented IMer and sprint freestyler, Kendall Craig swims year-round with Seneca Valley Swim Club and finished 19th in the 400 IM at Christiansburg Sectionals in March 2019. Last summer, she had a pair of top-20 finishes at Rutgers Sectionals before going on to earn two best times at the TPIT Junior Olympics.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:03.63
  • 400 IM – 4:32.53
  • 50 free – 24.60
  • 100 free – 52.53

Also competing for Seneca Valley High School, Craig is a six-time WPIAL 3A Championship finalist. She also placed seventh in the 200 IM as a junior while taking 15th in that event during her sophomore season at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships.

AMELIA KANE

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Akron! Can’t wait to be a Lady Zip! #gozips”

Primarily an IMer and distance freestyler, Amelia Kane represents Team Ireland internationally and competed in the 400m IM at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships. She recently collected three gold medals at the McCullagh International Meet where she achieved two lifetime bests.

Her best times include: (LCM/SCY conversions):

  • 200m IM – 2:19.86/2:02.65
  • 400m IM – 4:52.89/4:16.57
  • 400m free – 4:23.54/4:53.05
  • 800m free – 9:09.32/10:20.73
  • 1500m free – 17:29.12/17:13.38
  • 200m back – 2:19.53/2:02.36

At the Irish SC National Championships in December 2019, Kane won the 400m/800m/1500m free and was the runner-up in the 200m back. She also raced three events at the LEN European SC Championships last winter and won the 400m free, 200m fly, and 200m back at Irish Nationals last summer.
