Cincinnati Bearcats Pick Up Verbal from Backstroker Morgan Shinault
NEW COMMIT: The University of Cincinnati has gained a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Morgan Shinault of Plant City, Fla.
A two-time Winter Juniors qualifier, Shinault swims year-round with Tampa Bay Aquatics and placed eighth in the 200m back at 2018 Cary Futures and raced six events at 2017 Juniors East. Also competing for Durant High School, Shinault is a six-time Florida 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed seventh in both the 200 IM and 100 back as a junior after finishing ninth and fourth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I chose Cincinnati because it was the right combination of academics and athletics, and when I stepped on campus it felt like home! I’m super excited to be a baby bearcat!!!!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 56.43
- 200 back – 2:00.11
- 100 fly – 57.19
- 200 fly – 2:02.33
- 200 IM – 2:05.47
- 400 IM – 4:26.74
Overcoming major back surgery earlier this year, Shinault has bounced back and will make an immediate impact for the Bearcats when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the B-final of both backstroke events as well as the 400 IM at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Cincinnati finished second overall in the team standings.
