Chinese National Championships Day 8: Li Bingjie Dominates 800 Free to Qualify For Paris
Four swimmers qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Day 8 of the Chinese National Championships.
Wang Changhao and Sun Jiajun earned spots in the men’s 100 butterfly, while Yu Yiting qualified in the women’s 200 IM and Li Bingjie earned a spot in the women’s 800 freestyle.
Li Bingjie won the gold medal in the 800 freestyle with a swim of 8:25.43 to qualify for Paris. Gao Weizhong took the silver in 8:27.97 and Ma Yonghui took the bronze (8:29.24).
In the women’s 200 IM, Yu Yiting earned the gold medal with a swim of 2:09.73 to punch her ticket to Paris. Zheng Huiyu took the silver (2:11.87) and Ge Chutong took the bronze (2:12.10).
The men’s 100 butterfly saw the top two performers qualify for the Olympics. Wang Changhao won the gold in 51.20, followed by Sun Jiajun (51.54). Xu Fang won the bronze in 51.87.
In the women’s 50 free semifinal at the Chinese National Championships, Wu Qingfeng took the top seed into finals with a 24.27, ahead of Zhang Yufei (24.31) and Cheng Yujie (24.56) and will race for gold on Saturday.
