NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has earned another verbal commitment for the fall of 2020, this time from Carmel, Indiana’s Meredith Berglund.

Berglund, who owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 fly, does her club swimming with Carmel Swim Club. She recently achieved 100% best times at Indianapolis Speedo Sectionals after racing three events at Juniors East in December. She concluded her long course season at Cary Futures after a successful showing at the Indiana LCM Championships.

Also competing for Carmel High School, Berglund is a two-time Indiana State Championship finalist. The NISCA All-American finished fifth in the 100 fly as a junior after taking fourth in the event during her sophomore season. This past season, Berglund helped Carmel earn their 33rd-straight state title.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SO excited to announce to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The University of South Carolina! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who supported me along the way. #GOCOCKS”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 54.80
  • 50 free – 24.36
  • 100 free – 51.97
  • 200 IM – 2:09.61
  • 400 IM – 4:37.80

The Gamecocks have been on top of their recruiting game for next fall, snagging three in-state recruits in Emma SullivanGabi Reed and Riley Parker who will join Berglund next fall, in addition to fellow Hoosier native Kaitlyn Porter.
